This morning on the way to school I had an idea for a new game running through my mind.
How was I going to get it sorted and turn it into a game that my class would first of all enjoy, and secondly, benefit from?
Luckily, I have a group of children who are so responsive to new ideas and always go with me when I suggest new ideas and seek their input and advice with them.
This is the result of our discussions, and a bit of trial and error.
In my classroom each morning I stop doing my own preparation for the day the moment the kids step in the door. We manage to have a half hour before school starts each day playing whatever maths games they want. (They can also choose to read, so it's not entirely maths based!!!)
I find that I learn just as much about their mathematical knowledge in this half hour each morning as I do in our formal maths lesson later on in the day.
So, here it is.
Have a play, and keep in mind that much of it was refined by a group of Gr 5 students. We even played it as a whole class later on in the day, and the kids all said they enjoyed it.
